"Consciousness: What does it mean?" - by Sri M

Consciousness: What does it mean ?

Namaskar,
When we say consciousness, what do you mean? What is ‘conscious’? That means to be aware of the world, to be aware of all that you see, to be aware of you seeing the world; all these things together constitute consciousness. So, consciousness naturally means also awareness. If you are conscious you cannot be not aware of something, especially if you put your mind to it.  Most of the people say to be conscious you need to have the brain or rather that consciousness is a product of the brain. This is the usual understanding but some of us beg to differ.

The Wellness Centre for Yoga and Ayurveda @ The Sacred Grove

“Swasthasya swaasthya rakshanam

Aturasya vikara prasamanam “

"Preserve the health of the healthy and mitigate the suffering of the ailing”, is the philosophy of the life science referred to as Ayurveda.  It is drawn from many ancient philosophies like  the Sankhya, Yoga and Vaisheshika darshana. Therefore, Ayurveda in a way, is an offshoot of Yoga, focusing on principles of good living that includes lifestyle, dietetics, detoxification therapies, treatments, and management of diseases, promoting mental, physical, and emotional health.
At The Sacred Grove, Chowdepalle, work is in progress to create  a Wellness Centre that includes twelve rooms, four rooms for treatments and therapies, consultation spaces, exclusive kitchen for making formulations needed for the treatments and therapies, space to house the staff , and an herbarium that will grow many medicinal plants.
The Centre is expected to be functional by the latter half of 2021. We will be offering various detoxification therapies, combined with yoga, sattvic diet and lifestyle for the care seekers and sadhaks, visiting the facility.

Wisdom of the Rishis

The Upanishads raise direct questions regarding the source of thought, the essence of our being and are as relevant today as they were 2000 years ago.
The Ishavasya proclaims the all pervasiveness of the totality of consciousness called Isha, the Lord and urges one to let go our narrow and self centered identity.
The  Kena (meaning Who) Upanishad concerns itself with the question of ones ID. Is there a separate I or is it merely a term used to describe the totality of cognizance.
The Mandukya examines the same idea but in a different way, exploring the states of consciousness all human beings experience, namely, the waking state, the dream state and the deep sleep state

The Mandukya Upanishad & The Alphabet of Reality (DVD)

The Mandukya Upanishad is the shortest of the Upanishads. Gaudapada’s commentary on it is quite voluminous and so also is the Shankarabhashya on it, indicating the Upanishad’s importance. It is a treatise on the waking, dream, and deep sleep states of consciousness common to all human beings, and discusses the possibility of a fourth state of consciousness, ‘turiya’ which transcends the other three. Tradition has it that Varuna deva took the form of a ‘Manduk’, a frog, and taught this Upanishad.
