“Swasthasya swaasthya rakshanam Aturasya vikara prasamanam “ "Preserve the health of the healthy and mitigate the suffering of the ailing”, is the philosophy of the life science referred to as Ayurveda. It is drawn from many ancient philosophies like the Sankhya, Yoga and Vaisheshika darshana. Therefore, Ayurveda in a way, is an offshoot of Yoga, focusing on principles of good living that includes lifestyle, dietetics, detoxification therapies, treatments, and management of diseases, promoting mental, physical, and emotional health. The Upanishads raise direct questions regarding the source of thought, the essence of our being and are as relevant today as they were 2000 years ago.
The Mandukya Upanishad & The Alphabet of Reality (DVD)
The Mandukya Upanishad is the shortest of the Upanishads. Gaudapada’s commentary on it is quite voluminous and so also is the Shankarabhashya on it, indicating the Upanishad’s importance. It is a treatise on the waking, dream, and deep sleep states of consciousness common to all human beings, and discusses the possibility of a fourth state of consciousness, ‘turiya’ which transcends the other three. Tradition has it that Varuna deva took the form of a ‘Manduk’, a frog, and taught this Upanishad.
